Lacoste caps. History & Trends

In today`s post, we`re going to talk about Lacoste, the brand`s history, and, of course, about its emblematic caps.

Let`s discover together the history of this brand, what the crocodile has to do with this clothing brand, and what keeps Lacoste still trending in 2021.

Lacoste`s History & Logo

Everything started in 1923 with the well-known tennis man René Lacoste.

The French young men made from his early passion for tennis an impressive career, owning several Grand Slam titles and the title of the best player in the world between 1926 and 1927.

Going back to the moment of 1923 where the history of Lacoste as a brand starts it worth mentioning that it all started with a bet René made with his captain. If he won the next game his captain would have given him a crocodile leather suitcase that Rene spotted in a shop window.

He lost the bet, for losing the match, but his tenacity on the court was described as similar to the one of a crocodile. The metaphor was so good that it soon became his nickname. And he loved it so much that ordered to have embroidered on his jacket the image of a crocodile.

That`s how everything started.

Later, as the sportswear on tennis courts, was changing, becoming more comfortable and lighter, René's polos shirts made their way easily into the industry.  This time, featuring the embroidered crocodile on the chest as a brand logo.

By the '50s Lacoste started exporting all over the world. And it didn`t stop there.

Since then, René`s brand expanded its production with different types of clothing items, accessories, and shoes that were no longer meant to be exclusively for sports practices. The Lacoste style slowly converted into a reference for comfortable but elegant apparel.   Nowadays Lacoste promotes a wide variety of items to complete its clothing line as bagswatchesfragrancesbeltsluggage, and, of course, caps.

The brand ambassadors Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev made the Lacoste gain more visibility on and off the tennis court. And after the emblematic Lacoste polo shirts the second preferred item by the ambassadors, are the Lacoste caps.

The brand`s iconic caps are the ones with an unstructured crownsemi-curved visor, and adjustable stripe back closure. Usually are made with natural fibers and count with ventilation embroidered holes. Nevertheless, Lacoste offers also flat visor caps or rear mesh caps. You can see all the caps described here.
