Discover the History of New Era Cap
Here is the brief history of the New Era cap brand. Possibly the most famous worldwide:
History
Ehrhardt Koch revolutionized the world of caps in 1920 with the foundation of a family business called New Era Cap Co.
In 1920 he founded the E. Koch Cap Company. That was thanks to a loan of $ 1000. Later, he renamed it New Era Cap Co., his company began producing 60,000 Gatsby hats a year.
In 1932 his only son Harold joined the business. With his economic vision of the company and the environment, he realized that a change was needed. The change was to produce fewer Gatsby caps (since they were less and less in demand) to start manufacturing baseball caps taking advantage of their popularity growth.
In the 40s they made adjustable caps with elastic reinforcement.
In 1950 New Era was the only independent company that made the caps for the major baseball leagues. Koch passed away in 1953 but his ideals are still present today with the current New Era models. Shortly after his death, the 59FIFTY model was born, which in the 1960s began to be produced exclusively in a new factory in Derby, New York. In 1961 they were invited to the Winter Baseball Meetings event where they were able to sell directly to the Major League and Minor League teams.
In 1972 Harold was promoted to executive director and his son David Koch. He was appointed president after 14 years in the company. In 1974 almost all MLB teams already had their contract signed with New Era.
David Koch's vision allowed him to grow steadily in the 80s. They sold university sports caps, international baseball leagues, also visors and tennis and golf caps increased their demand. As well as military orders for the army.
In 1993 New Era became the exclusive supplier of MLB caps.
At the beginning of the 20th century, globalization continued and offices opened in Europe, Japan and Australia.
In recent years the NFL and New Era have re-associated and have obtained exclusive rights to make caps and sports caps.
New Era caps at Top Hats
In Top Hats the New Era brand of caps was the first to be sold. Well, who doesn't know the New York Yankees New York NY cap. We have snapbacks, curved baseball caps, NFL football, motorcycle and car racing sports. We also sell New Era Looney Tunes caps. We also have several soccer teams like Manchester United.
Nomenclature of New Era hats
New Era has its name types for caps such as:
The 9forty a curved and adjustable visor cap from behind
9fifty caps are like snapback with flat visor and adjustable from behind
After 39thirty is like the 9forty with curved visor but the back is not adjustable but it is better at the head without the closures.
On the other hand, the 59fifty goes hand in hand with the 9fifty cap due to the fact that it has a flat visor but is not adjustable by others like the 39thirty.
And finally there is the dad hat, also named as dad cap, which is just the type 9twenty. A curved cap with a wrinkled crown as a given fabric (made express!).
Classic Models that do not go out of fashion
Throughout the history of Top Hats we have always had models such as the Flawless cap, the Diamond Era, the League Basic, the Team. These are caps that are repeated because they have been very well received by the fashion market.
